Astoria, Oregon to Boise, Idaho

Explore Oregon’s Coastal Beauty and High Desert

The journey begins in Astoria, Oregon, one of the most bike-friendly states in the U.S. Starting along the coast and heading inland, the route follows the Columbia River and passes through Portland before climbing to the base of Mount Hood.

Day three offers an extraordinary transition as riders leave lush coastal forests and enter Oregon’s striking high desert. The Cascade Mountain Range dominates the view, showcasing peaks like Mount Jefferson, Mount Bachelor, and The Three Sisters. This first week features challenging terrain and unforgettable views, concluding in Boise, Idaho, where riders enjoy their first rest day.

Boise, Idaho to Casper, Wyoming

Fertile Farmlands and Majestic Mountain Passes

The second leg of the tour begins with tame terrain as the route winds through the fertile Snake River Plain, showcasing some of the most productive farmland in the country. The motto in this area is, “Just add water.” As the ride enters Wyoming, the scenery becomes dramatic with the towering peaks of the Teton Range.

Cyclists next conquer Teton Pass, stopping at 8,432 feet to take in stunning views of Jackson Hole. After a night in Jackson, the journey continues north past the Grand Tetons and crosses the Continental Divide at Togwotee Pass (9,658 feet). Riders then descend to the western town of Dubois after crossing the divide, where red rock hills and wide-open high desert define the scenery. The vista primarily consists of sagebrush, tumbleweeds, and an occasional stand of hardy trees.

A Rest Day in Casper

The segment concludes with two days of wide-open high desert terrain before arriving in Casper, Wyoming. Enjoy a well-earned rest day and prepare for the next segment.

Casper, Wyoming to Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Grasslands, Black Hills, and the Badlands

Leaving Casper, the ride crosses high plains and small western Wyoming towns before entering South Dakota’s grasslands. The scenery shifts as the route passes through the Black Hills and through Wind Cave National Park, where prairie dogs and free-range bison are abundant, providing great opportunities for photo ops.

Highlights of this segment include Crazy Horse Monument, Mount Rushmore, and Wall Drug (famous for its free glasses of ice water). The ride continues through the stunning, otherworldly landscapes of Badlands National Park, offering 50 miles of unforgettable views. Exiting the park, fertile farmland, grazing cattle, and rolling hills define the final stretch as we head east and cross the Missouri River to Sioux Falls, where riders enjoy another rest day.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Niagara Falls, New York

Rolling Farmlands and Quiet Country Roads

The next leg begins in the rolling farmlands of Minnesota before crossing the Mississippi River at La Crosse, Wisconsin. Riders enjoy quiet country roads and the famous Sparta-Elroy Trail. You’ll pass Ben Bikin’ and through the “Cycling Capital of the World.” The route from there begins to display more vibrant towns and trees as it meanders to the shore of Lake Michigan. A four-hour ferry ride across Lake Michigan takes cyclists from Manitowoc, Wisconsin, to Ludington, Michigan.

Crossing Michigan and Into Canada

From Michigan’s farmland and quiet roads, the route heads to Port Huron and crosses the Blue Water Bridge into Canada (passports required). Cyclists pass through vibrant farmlands growing crops not often seen in the U.S. Our time in Canada is short-lived, though, as the ride approaches Niagara Falls, New York, where this leg ends for a rest day to explore the sights and sounds of this iconic destination.

Niagara Falls, New York to Portsmouth, New Hampshire

Scenic Vistas and the Appalachian Mountains

The final leg begins with rolling farmland in up-state New York, passing Rochester and along the Erie Canal on the way to Liverpool. From there, New York provides beautiful vistas along the Mohawk River. Next, we will cross into Vermont and New Hampshire, offering a roller-coaster ride through the Green Mountains, part of the Appalachian Mountain system.

A Grand Finale in Portsmouth, New Hampshire

The journey concludes on the shores of New Hampshire, having experienced some of the most scenic and diverse landscapes in the country.
